Automatic Voltage Regulator's (AVR's) are relatively slow responding devices and designed to address relatively slow moving voltage deviations lasting from one or more cycles through to seconds, minutes or even hours. They will provide hardware protection from sustained high or low voltages and provide a further benefit of reducing generator on-times resulting in improved fuel consumption and reduced tacho revolutions meaning reduced service visits.

In addition they will reduce the number of UPS battery discharge cycles thus improving their life span.
