Transient Voltage Surge Suppression
High-Speed transient impulses as caused by lightning or grid switching can produce multi-stroke, high energy disturbances which can disrupt or cripple equipment resulting in downtime and loss of data. Most lightning strikes are multi-stroke and catastrophic, with a single typical flash containing four or more strokes. Induced transients resulting from lightning discharges can easily enter the facility through power lines and wiring and will propagate through the facility on any exposed conductor or path.
They are High-Energy, High Speed impulses and cannot be addressed by a normal Automatic Voltage Regulator, as they are too fast for it to respond whereas Transient Voltage Strike Suppressors are extremely fast response devices and specifically designed to stop and prevent damage to electronic equipment from these catastrophic electrical transients.
